Since 2010, NESTAC has prioritised the needs for a Supplementary School (NSS), which consistently offers support to disadvantaged children living mainly in Rochdale, with a focus on refugee and asylum seeker children and young people, who regularly arrive in the area through humanitarian governmental programmes and asylum dispersal.
The NSS programme is a free funded service, extremely popular in Rochdale, providing tuition and other additional support to these children and young people, to overcome educational and social barriers.
The NSS offers a Homework Club, an Art Club, Emotional Wellbeing Initiatives, Cross-cultural Heritage initiatives and Youth volunteering opportunities.
The NSS receives referrals from local schools and agencies and directly from members of the local community.
